Out now: Keith LeBlanc's 'Chess Moves'

Keith LeBlanc has a new LP on Universal - CHESS MOVES
Keith has picked out and retrofitted a few...

Raiding the prodigious vaults at the legendary Chess Records, maverick producer and session drummer Keith LeBlanc has picked out a few raw nuggets of primal, hollerin' and howlin' blues and retrofitted them with some rather tasty post-funk grooves for this enthralling compilation. A brilliantly simple idea, LeBlanc resurrects forgotten classics such as Howlin' Wolf's Moanin' At Midnight and Sugar Boy Crawford's Jock A Mo, dusting off their cobwebs and shaking their thang in a thoroughly postmodern kind of dance - this is the sound of future blues.

Out now: Doug Wimbish's 'CinemaSonics'

It's out now, available as digital download or on cd: 'Cinemasonics', the follow-up to Doug...

For CinemaSonics, Doug recruited many of his life-long musical mates, and tapped his deep reservoir of talent, influences, and cinematic memories to make his most personal record to date.

CinemaSonics is, as expected, filled with Doug's virtuosity, electronics, and signature ambient sound, but it also showcases his often over-looked melodic, lyrical, and compositional skills. From horn-rich James Bond orchestration, to 1970s Superfly funk, urban Beatstreet vibes, and darker Miami Vice moods, CinemaSonics is a comprehensive, and stylish musical document, effectively serving as a soundtrack for Doug's artistic life.

Personel:

Doug Wimbish (bass, vocals, ambience, Skip McDonald (guitars, keybs, vocals), Bernard Fowler (vocals ), Keith LeBlanc (drums ), Will Calhoun (drums), Milan Cimfe (drums, percussion), Pavel Dirda (piano), Pete Lockett (percussion), Flash (horns), Kevin Gibbs and Sas Bell (vocals ), Bernie Worrell (keyboards), Adrian Sherwood (creative ambience and psycho mix), Sister Carol (vocals), Shara Nelson (vocals)

Headfake dvd out NOW!

Echo Beach subdivision Dude Records had just released the Headfake film 'Live in the area of...

Best known as the rhythm section in the Grammy Award-winning band Living Colour, Doug Wimbish and Will Calhoun showcase their individual talents, performing as the bass/drum duo Headfake. As Headfake, Doug and Will have the opportunity to display a virtuosity, often over shadowed when playing in a more traditional support role.

So when Headfake was scheduled to play the Lucerna Music Bar (a popular nightclub in downtown Prague, Czech Republic), Doug and Will welcomed a proposal from local filmmaker Petr Tomaides? to document the event.

Effectively capturing the night's high-energy performance, and later editing and cutting the film in an appropriately frenetic style, Tomaides has allowed us the opportunity to ride along as Doug and Will explore the outer limits of sound, opening our eyes (and ears) to what is musically possible by 'just two guys'.

In the area of Prague is a fast-paced, day-in-the-life of Headfake, from Doug and Will's arrival in Prague to an interesting afternoon sound check, backstage, as Czech reporters ask Doug about his improvisational style and vivid musical past, and of course on stage for the evening's inspired performance.

With a level of intensity rarely seen in such a small club, Doug and Will command the stage, and conquer the room with their electrically charged set, combining their own collaborative compositions with rarities out of Doug's industrial/funk (Tackhead!) and hip-hop past.

After experiencing Headfake live in the area of Prague it's apparent why Doug and Will are considered one of the finest rhythm sections in rock 'n' roll, and the heart and soul of Living Colour.

The dvd is available at Amazon.
